2018 marks the trail’s 11th anniversary! If you visit us every year or this is your first, we will have something new for you to come out and experience.
Spend the day on the trail with your friends and family. We have so much to do and so much to learn about these wonderful animals. Feed an alpaca from your hand; or, touch one to discover its fabulous fiber. Alpacas are gentle animals and are safe around even the youngest member of your group. We hope you take a Road Trip with us this year as we head out to the Alpaca Country Trail.
While on the trail, enter our basket raffle to win products (past baskets included hats, gloves, socks, and scarves) worth over $250 dollars. You never know what might be in the basket this year. To enter, visit all five farms and submit your guess of how many alpacas you visited on the five farms. Each person with a correct guess is eligible to win, so pack up the car with friends and family and head out to the trail for a day of some family-friendly fun.
Hope to see you on the trail!
What’s happening on the farms?
Northwoods Alpacas …Northwoods Alpacas is home to almost 50 alpacas! There will be several cria, or baby alpacas, to see as four (so far) were born this month. And, you will have a chance to name two of them in our NAME THE CRIA CONTEST. The farm will be open to tour – so grab a donut & cider and tour the farm with informative signs about why we raise alpacas and how funny they can be. We have several alpacas for sale, so whether you are looking for pets or want to get involved breeding them, we have beautiful alpacas to choose from. The farm store will be opening for the season and it is stocked with all our basics that you love and lots of new items too! It’s never too early to start that holiday shopping! This year we will be featuring our own alpaca jerky and snack sticks. Food for the alpacas will also be available. Bring your cameras for fun family memories!
SanGer-La Alpacas …SanGer-La Alpacas is making changes. We’ve set the barn up as a temporary workshop for our new 60″ Feltcraft needle felter! Watch Nancy as she designs and transforms the alpaca “batts” into felted garments and blankets. She still makes her wet felted hats which is done by a “wet felted” process. She’ll show and tell you the difference between the two different ways of making felt. Head out back to see the alpacas with Kris as he explains what rotational grazing is all about. Interested in raising alpacas? Kris can explain the difference between fiber/pet alpacas and breeding alpacas. We’re here to help. Learn from our experiences about setting up your property, fences, barn and everything else alpaca.
Stoney Meadows Alpacas …Stoney Meadows Alpacas is now home to Stone Mountain Looms! See how we go from alpaca fiber to finished clothing right here on the farm. Also at the farm this year, we will have a food vendor selling hamburgers and hots. Porta Potties will also available for use.
Windy Meadows Farm and Fiber Factory…Windy Meadows Farm and Fiber Factory, llc is a family owned and operated alpaca farm and full service fiber mill, located in Hamlin, NY. We process fiber from alpaca and sheep into felt, yarn, and finished products. We also carry a selection of dyes and craft tools geared towards the fiber arts! Our mill is one of less than one hundred in all of North America! The gift shop is open daily noon to 8:00 pm and mill tours are available by appointment.
During National Alpaca Days we will be offering tours both days, meet the alpacas, and enjoy a complimentary lunch all day!
Genna-rations Farm will welcome guests to celebrate the weekend by visiting the alpacas, enjoying refreshments, fiber demonstrations, and entering a raffle all for FREE! Our farm store will also be open and offers unique alpaca gifts for early holiday shoppers, the innovative SpinOlution spinning wheels and accessories, yarn and roving for fiber enthusiasts, and fiber end products including hats, gloves, socks, and blankets for those who enjoy spending time outdoors during the winter months or want the luxury of alpaca to snuggle up with at home. We invite you to come celebrate this national event with us.
